If you’ve had a passion all your life for helping others or
are particularly interested in working with the elderly, becoming a home care
assistant could be the perfect career for you. However, embarking
upon a career as an in-home caretaker takes extensive training. At R.G.U.S., Inc.
we hire only the most qualified personnel.
For those curious as
to the qualifications of the staff from R.G.U.S., Inc., we’ve collected some
tips on how to become one of our home care assistants.
Having the Proper
Character Traits
Being a home care assistant can be difficult work. Although often rewarding, working with the elderly or patients with limited mobility also requires compassion and understanding. You’ll also need to be physically fit, as caretakers will often have to help patients in and out of bed or the bathtub. For this reason, you’ll also need to be comfortable providing more personal assistance on occasion as well.
Training Requirements
When it comes to becoming an in-home care assistant or caretaker, you’ll need to undergo training to ensure you follow all of the industry best practices. There are online certification programs and many community colleges offer courses that provide National Association for Home Care and Hospice (NAHC) training. In addition to enrolling in a certification course, you’ll also often be required to take a local first-aid and CPR courses. Many home care providers, R.G.U.S., Inc. included, give newly-certified staff members on-the-job training.
